Orlando is the latest addition to the growing list of local AVIXA Women’s Council chapters. Thanks to leadership and support from Alison Maxson of Absen and Ashley Dorst of Evolve Media Group, the inaugural event will take place on October 4 at the Orange Studio near downtown Orlando from 4pm to 7pm.
Home to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld, Orlando is one of the top entertainment cities in the world, which makes it a great place for AV professionals in the live-venue industry. While this industry is heavily male-dominated, there is a growing trend of women becoming AV technicians.
“It was a natural fit to focus our first Orlando meeting around the role women are playing in changing the AV tech landscape and increasing the opportunities for other women interested in making AV their career,” Alison Maxson, Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications for Absen Inc., said.
To help bring this topic to life, Alison reached out to Evolve’s Marketing Associate, Ashley Dorst, about partnering up and leveraging their recent photo series titled “Show Girls,” which captures a core group of female AV techs discussing their career experiences in the AV industry.
“I was greatly inspired by Evolve’s ‘Show Girls’ presentation. I immediately started discussing the possibility of showcasing it at the Orlando chapter’s first meeting with Ashley,” stated Maxson.
“It was really amazing how much Alison and I were on the same page in looking at ways to encourage women in the AV industry in our area, so partnering up made perfect sense,” added Dorst.
